Summer Staffer - Andy

How did you hear about World Impact?

I heard about WI during the 2001 National Missionary Convention by word of mouth

from another inner-city mission while I was looking for an inner-city mission internship

during the summer. The man that refered me said that WI was a good organization to

look up. So I did.

Why did you come on Summer Staff?

I sought out God's will for my life and decided that He wanted me to try an inner-city

internship to get a sense of what inner-city work is like. Most of the world is becoming

quickly urbanized and the inner-city is everywhere. I decided to try and respond to God's

calling and I came.

What was your biggest challenge/lesson learned?

The biggest challenge or lesson I learned was that people need to not only be taught

or preached at but befriended and discipled. From WI I saw in action active discipleship

relationships that encouraged and taught me how to be not only a part of peoples lives

but and active part of them.

What were you involved in?

I was involved in mostly work with kids. I would watch kids during home fellowship times,

baby-sit, hang out with them, went to camp with teenagers, went to teenage home

fellowships. I also worked with adults in some situations but not a lot.

How has this experience changed you?

I have a deeper love for people and see people just a little bit more as God sees them.

I have been encouraged to do a better job at discipleship. And I have a deeper love for

the inner-city and its own unique culture.

Advice for future or potential summer staff

Throw yourself into God's work and do not hold back. A good way to experience something

or learn something is by doing it. Be nice to people.

Who did you connect with?

I connected well with the other summer staff because we spent a lot of time together. I

also connected well with some of the missionaries also whom I spent a lot of time with.

I connected well with some kids in my neighborhood who we would all spend time together

hanging out and living life. I did feel connected to almost all the inner-city (non-missionary)

people who I developed relationships with.
